frequently asked questions

WHICH AREAS DO YOU SERVE AND ARE YOU WILLING TO TRAVEL TO MY PHOTOSHOOT?

I primarily serve San Francisco, Bay Area, Placer County and Greater Sacramento areas. I am willing to travel for the right shoots, so please enquire so we can discuss your photoshoot location and goals.

How long are sessions?

Each session varies in time, please see the details listed on the services page.

DO YOU OFFER MINI-sessions?

Yes, I offer 20 minute mini sessions for $450 in the Spring and Fall seasons. Let’s connect on Instagram @studiocoakley (link to my instagram here) or drop your email below (email subscription box?) to stay up to date on mini sessions. These are limited and fill up very fast, especially around the holidays!

what is your pricing?

Pricing begins at $450. For a detailed list of our packages and pricing, please view our packages on the Services page.

How many family members are allowed in a family session?

Generally I anticipate shooting just the immediate family. If you are bringing additional family members outside of the immediate family to the session it will be an additional fee of $50.

When should I book my maternity session?

I recommend booking the maternity session as soon as you find out you are pregnant, and aim to have the photos taken between 30-35 weeks along in your pregnancy.

Are dogs allowed?

Yes, dogs are welcome, but require a $50 additional fee. Please keep your dog’s temperament in mind especially if we are at a park or beach: Dogs can be the hardest family-members to control and/or shoot control. I recommend booking the full session (not mini sessions) if we plan to have both dogs and children present.

do you use props for newborn photos?

My style accentuates the natural simplicity and beauty, therefore I do not use props or costumes or do cake smashes. I recommend having neutral swaddles, little knit stuffies, or wood rattles. My favorite ways to photograph newborns are having the baby laying simply on the bed near a sunny window, propped on a linen pillow, swaddled, in their cribs, and most importantly in the arms of their parents.

Any advice for styling/outfits for the family?

Neutrals are always the most beautiful, whites and creams add a lot of lightness and airiness to photos and keep images clean and simple. If someone is going to be in a print, I recommend it being the mom or just the children. Dads usually stay pretty low key and casual in a solid shirt/sweater and jeans, so the mom is the main focus. I love cream, light gray, blush, saffron, terra cotta hues, sage green, and generally nythign earthy and light. I love flowy dresses for that very feminine style. Linen, cashmere, chiffon, and chunky knits are all textures that photograph beautifully!

Do you shoot the entire house in newborn/in home sessions?

No, we stay near the sunny windows, on the bed, sofa, rocking chair and nursery. I can help push stuff out of the way when I am there to carve out the best spots of the house for the photos. I do not photograph an entire room of the house; I keep shots pretty tight.

Do you provide black and white or just color versions of the photos?

Most are in color and I use my preference for which shots look best in black and white. Galleries typically include at least 5 black and whites and usually they are the more candid shots.

Where are your favorite locations to shoot?

Bay Area Locations: Baker Beach, Marin Headlands/Mount Tam, Palace of Fine Arts, Presidio, Sutro Baths, Cavallo Point, Stinson Beach, my family’s ranch in Moraga/East Bay.

Sacramento/Placer County locations: American River, Bear River, Vineyards/Wineries, Olive Orchards, Bernhard Museum, Penryn Griffith Quarry, open fields, Coyote Pond Park, Wildflower Reserves, Apple Orchards.

Do you “photoshop” every photo?

I do retouch all of my images, but I do not make changes to faces or bodies. I do not apply excessive photoshopping to my photos to create that airbrushed style. I pose each person in the most flattering angles and with the best lighting. I can help with outfit selection ahead of time to make sure everyone in the family has outfits that will be flattering and that they will feel comfortable and confident in.

Is a deposit needed to book?

Yes, 50% deposit at booking. It is non-refundable but can be put towards a different date if needed, just need to be notified within 48 hours prior to the confirmed session date and time.

Do you have a referral discount?

Yes, $50 off your next session for each referral that books a session with me.

Do you use flash photography?

I am a natural light lover and truly believe it is magical to watch what sunlight does to EVERYTHING, therefore I do not bring artificial lights and flashes into my sessions. I am trained in natural light manual photography and can control the amount of light the camera lets in, so even if it may seem dark to the naked eye, I will accounting for it it on my end.

What does your process look like start to finish?

New Client Consultation call, vision planning session, actual photo shoot, galleries delivered within three weeks. Prints, holiday cards, and/or photo albums can be ordered from the online gallery within the the following three months. After 3 months, your gallery will expire. I recommend downloading all files to an external hard drive right away, so you do not lose access to your online gallery.
